GREAT NORTH Goes Global
Montreal, March 22, 2001
Like an unstoppable herd of caribou, GREAT NORTH has begun an awesome
migration. Launched in Montreal in February, the IMAX® film
is now playing in
Paris (where it won the Grand Prix at the 2001 la Géode IMAX®
Film Festival),
Stockholm, Taipei, Duluth, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. It opens
at
Torontos xx theatre on May 11th.
Since GREAT NORTHS release, over 100,000 people have thrilled
to images of stampeding caribou and icebergs drifting majestically
on the Arctic waters in places where no IMAX® camera
has ever been before.
Produced by Montreal-based TVA International, GREAT NORTH shows
the splendour of the Arctic, and depicts the ingenious ways in which
the Inuit and the Saami (once known as Lapps) have adapted to life
in an environment thats both beautiful and harsh.
GREAT NORTH is more than a stunning nature film. Its the
power of the worlds largest caribou herd (a million strong)
living in northern Quebec and Labrador. Its a brilliant blend
of original material and footage from the classic Nanook of the
North. Its the hauntingly beautiful sound of a Saami singer
calling to a herd of reindeer.
The films soundtrack, composed by Violaine Corradi, is now
available. Corradi, who also wrote the music for the Cirque du Soleil
show Dralion, blends a contemporary sound with Inuit throat songs
and the traditional Saami music known as jojk. The CD can be ordered
through www.great-north.com, or by calling 1-888-88-INDIE. It is
also for sale at theatres screening Great North.
