Great North, Motion International's first IMAX® film
Montreal, March 17, 1999

Motion International announced today that cameras are rolling on Great North, its $5.5 million IMAX® feature. The film will be released in IMAX theatres in June 2000. Motion International retains worldwide distribution rights for this large-format film project.

"Great North is the first release from Motion International, Large Format Films", declared unit President André Picard. He added, "The large-format market is booming. Thanks to the IMAX® medium, Great North will capture the spirit of a virtually uncharted area of the globe-the High Arctic."

Great North celebrates the rugged polar region, a land of ice seemingly barren yet teeming with life. The film is a tribute to the people who live there and to the caribou of this region, the world’s largest migratory herds.

Filming kicked off last fall in Quebec, north of the 55th parallel, and will wrap in late summer of this year. Additional shooting will take place in Sweden, above the Arctic Circle. Great North was written by Georges-Hebert Germain in collaboration with David Homel and Saami documentary filmmaker John E. Utsi. The producer is Martin J. Dignard, with executive producers Andre Picard and Desiree Edmar, from the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Bill Reeve and Martin J. Dignard are co-directors.

Andre Picard is recognized for his work as the executive producer of several IMAX® films, such as Rolling Stones at the Max (the first-ever large format feature), Titanica and Oscar® nominated Fires of Kuwait. He is also co- producing Journey of Man, a 3D IMAX® film featuring the Cirque du Soleil.

Principal sponsorship for Great North is provided by Hydro Quebec. The film is produced with the support of the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Imagica Corporation of Japan, Tourisme Quebec, the «Wild» Zoo of St-Felicien and the Nunavik Tourism Association, and with the assistance of the Quebec tax credit program and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit program. Iridium and Chlorophylle provide additional service sponsorships.

Motion International, Large Format Films principal’s partner is Capital Communications CDPQ Inc., a subsidiary of the Caisse de dépôt du Québec.
