Soon, Tuktu will experience her first winter, with its driving snow and biting cold. As the seasons change. shorter days trigger the caribou’s biological clock. With diminishing hours of sunlight, Tuktu’s mother knows it's time to migrate south. She heads for the sub-Arctic, coniferous forests (known as taiga) in the James Bay region.

Winter offers scenes of stunning beauty as we follow Tuktu in her discovery of the northern wilderness. As the season comes to a close, the days grow longer and Tuktu’s mother knows that in a few short weeks, they will begin their trek north once again.
