Original Storyline

All winter long, migration was slow, as the caribou were mired in immense banks of snow. As some of that snow melts in April and May, the herd picks up speed. Their route will soon take them through the grazing grounds of their immense and impressive cousins, the musk oxen.

From somewhere within, Tuktu’s mother receives a sign that last October's mating was a success. The walk towards the breeding grounds will be long and arduous — a journey of more than 1,000 km (621 miles). Tuktu’s mother must persevere, relying on hope and courage alone to carry her to the grounds of her ancestors. Tuktu follows her mother, but soon realizes that other caribou of her age have already struck out on their own.
