Young male caribou live independently. But Tuktu is a female, so she and her mother continue on together, completing the annual migration in each other's company. Tuktu will one day show her own female offspring these centuries-old routes.

Tuktu has now returned to the place where she and her ancestors were born. The cycle has been completed. Tuktu’s mother has become intolerant of late and Tuktu keeps her distance. Soon, her mother will give birth to a new calf, and she will chase Tuktu away. But that is as it should be. The time will have come for Tuktu to move on.
